I Would Describe Myself || Jeremy Casella

I would describe myself as still getting to know me. A boy that meets an older man and wonders at what ways at which he is like himself. They are both the same person and yet they so often coexist and seem to watch each other. Sometimes a smirk. Sometimes a smile. Sometimes they trade a casual glance. There is much curiosity and an air of kindness there.

The boy wants to know - what’s it like to be big? Bigger than he is - big as the world seems to be when you are so small, so little - a dot on the map, a speck on the landscape. He looks up, eyes wide and full of expectation towards an answer back.

The question hangs there for a while, the older man breathes in and closes his eyes for a moment, then opens them and gently answers the boy-

To be big is to be broken, worn out and wrinkled into the fabric of being.

To be big is to be road weary and tired-

But listen boy, it’s not all bad, not all something to live and walk in fear of.

Grow in faith.

Lean into grace.

Drink deep the goodness in the garden of the love of life that’s all around you, supping alongside the sorrow.

It’s all a gift and we get to open it. A great big gift for both of us.

 Would you help me?

Let’s start by pulling off this fancy ribbon and get at what’s inside.
