Who We Are

We are so glad you found your way to our website! Our work is at The Fold is rooted in a desire to create authentic communities for writers & songwriters to recover their original voice here and beyond Nashville. We specifically gather through creative writing workshops and retreats throughout a calendar year. Our gatherings look a little different since the pandemic hit in 2020. While retreats are on hold indefinitely, our workshops have moved to online which is allowing us to create more opportunities for folks outside of Nashville. We are excited to tell you more! Check out more information below and be sure to watch our welcome video.

WRITE WITH US

Our workshops are centered around a prompt-based method called the AWA Method. Using the AWA Method, folks in our writing groups are given a prompt (poems, quotes, songs, etc.) and a certain amount of time to write in response to that prompt, then they are invited to share with the group if they’d like. Then, the group responds back to the writing by sharing “what’s strong” in the piece.

So now, we want to invite you to experience our writing method in a different way! If you’d like to write along, please respond to the prompt below and submit your piece in the form that follows. We will be selecting pieces to feature on our Instagram page (@thefoldnashville). Each Thursday, we have new prompts so follow along for more writing opportunities!

“I use words to find my way home.” -Pat Schneider

Prompt: Words

For five minutes, write a list of words as you think of your “home.” This can be your metaphorical home or literal home. Then, spend ten minutes with those words, constructing a story around them from memory or imagination!

Share with us what you find!
